Subfloor Preparation

Subfloor preparation is a prerequisite of any flooring project. Improper or inadequate subfloor preparation can cause premature failure of even the best flooring systems. Good design and implementation of your subfloor is essential for the success of the finished floor.

subfloor preparation for vinyl and other smooth surfaces

Smooth, single colour (Uni) glue-down floor coverings such as contract vinyl flooring or Karndean/Amtico flooring present surfaces that are particularly critical of the sub-floor upon which they are laid. With some of these products, even adhesive trowel marks can show through if care isn’t taken.

It is therefore important to use the appropriate sub-floor preparation system to suit both the substrate and the planned floor covering.

specialist subfloor preparation systems

Subfloor preparation methods are becoming increasingly specialist due to the requirement for faster installation times. As a result of these requirements ultra smooth finishes and instant solutions to a multitude of problems all have to be prepared in record time.

we supply and fit a range of subfloor preparation products

The range of subfloor preparation products extends from the established general purpose underlayments through to high performance specialist underlayments. These have been formulated in response to specific flooring problems and requirements. Generally these products are complemented by repair and finishing compounds, all designed to make subfloor preparation quicker and easier, ensuring a first class finish every time.

subfloor preparation for moisture control

CSE Flooring Contractors also offer a service and product range for the control of subfloor moisture. Using a Protimeter MMS subfloor moisture measurement tool, we can get instant indications of potentially problematic moisture levels, and if found to be required, full testing can be carried out with a Digital Hygrometer.

Where moisture issues are discovered, we are able to provide remedial treatment for damp floors by implementing  liquid Damp Proof Membranes, these can be quickly and easily laid.

In situations where a liquid damp proof membrane would not be appropriate, or where sub-floor contamination is a problem, a sheet Isolator Membrane can act as both a ‘same-day’ fast-track DPM solution, or as a barrier between the contaminated subfloor and the new floor covering.
